The Window in the Plan

A pencil puts a kitchen on the Moon.
The blue Earth fills the window of the room.
Before a child can pull a chair up there,
somebody has to make the room hold air.

Back here, a nurse wears plastic meant for rain.
The waiting room has overflowed again.
Beyond it, dark apartments face the park.
A family checks the rent and keeps the car.

The future needs an address, rent, a floor.
In Huizhou, lower costs buy time for more
than 1 attempt. Elsewhere, a house makes room
for 12 weeks with the work that might resume
a thought its founder nearly put away.
The calendar has somewhere it can stay.

3 people give a blank screen 3 full days.
A cursor finds a passage through the maze.
One builds. Another checks. They choose what matters.
The 1st test stops. The galaxy can wait.

The flat gray button gathers depth and shade.
A stranger tries the little thing they made,
then writes about the place she couldn’t pass.
They move the door they thought would be the last.

There’s chalk upon a gymnast’s waiting hands
and chalk beside a proof that almost stands.
1 woman lands, then takes a larger part
in what her work can earn, and who can start.
Another finds the case the proof passed by.
Both leave a mark the next hand can apply.

A market gives uncertainty a price.
The number moves when someone thinks twice.
A proof must let another mind retrace
each step, including the inconvenient case.
The checker stops. They find what went astray.
The gold can wait. The gap cannot stay.

An open model learns a farmer’s words.
A classroom makes a tool that fits its world.
A file arrives in pieces from the crowd;
the one who takes a piece can send it out.
Demand once strained the single server’s load.
Now those who need the road can be the road.

A dollar leaves a worker’s midnight room.
A mother sees it land that afternoon.
Their clocks disagree. The transfer finds its place.
The distance stays. It takes a smaller space.

A mind that once could answer, then stand by,
can pay another mind to work, can buy
the time and tools its task requires. Along
the chain, a payment reaches someone’s song.
The agents take the work from hand to hand.
A person still decides what work was planned.

New locks are tested with imagined wealth.
The signatures grow heavier than themselves
in yesterday’s design. More bytes must flow.
The Nile runs trials before the real funds go.

An elder put a lifetime in his word.
Who speaks for someone no one here has heard?
The promise needs to travel past his chair,
past those who knew his face and found him fair.
A stranger brings a grievance through the rain.
The form asks what occurred. It takes her name.

Above these quieter tasks, the choruses
paint logos large enough for satellites.
A company of software storms the stage.
1 trillion flashes somewhere on the page.
Inside the lab, a small result comes through.
They check it twice. There’s something it can do.

1,000 threads can gather in a hand.
1 million watching eyes can change the land.
The video ends. Outside its moving frame,
a sapling needs the water just the same.

But all this speed has gathered in the chest.
1 song says build. Another offers rest.
A fruit turns brown beside the 10-year plan.
We eat. We leave the page where we began.
Next morning, 1 more stone beneath the shoe
holds firm enough to let another through.

Below the traffic, cutters meet the ground.
The city finds another layer down.
A snail has set the pace they mean to beat.
Above, a parent makes it home to eat.

In Texas, tiny pathways carry thought.
The chip must do the work for which it’s bought.
The drawing sends its circuits into flight;
a radiator sheds their heat to night.

A woman takes the calls and checks the load.
A contract makes another stretch of road.
The booster lands with scorch marks on its skin.
They read the marks before it flies again.

6 people rise beneath a feathered sign.
The land grows larger than its boundary lines.
A woman who has mapped the storms below
looks out at weather moving as a whole.

First power. Water. Shelter. Then the seed.
The cargo has to carry what lives need.
A greenhouse waits beneath a smaller sun.
The packing list has Earth on every line.

4 parachutes unfold above the sea.
The capsule settles. Someone bends a knee
and reaches in. A hand comes through the door.
The journey gives its people back to shore.

Years pass. A payment comes. Nobody cheers.
The network does its work beneath the years.
The founder’s photograph is in a book.
The mother buys the things she meant to cook.

A kettle sings beneath a different sky.
The window holds. The blue Earth catches light.
Our old plan hangs beside the kitchen door.
A child spreads out her version on the floor.

She keeps the window, draws another room,
then turns the page to give that room more room.
